Countless Carinthians were startled by an earthquake on Wednesday morning. The earthquake occurred in the Mediterranean Sea.
Shortly after 7 a.m., the earth shook in the Mediterranean Sea near the Italian city of Senigallia. The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded a magnitude of 6.1. This corresponds to a strong earthquake. The magnitude was corrected to 5.6 a short time later. According to Italian media reports, there was damage to buildings in the affected area. In the seaside town of Rimini, people ran into the streets in panic.

The earthquake was not only felt in the entire Adriatic region, many Carinthians also reported the quake to the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics. A “Krone” reader from Ferlach reports clattering dishes and wobbly ceiling lamps.
