According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the situation on the war fronts in Ukraine remains difficult. In addition, winter is approaching, which, according to the Ukrainian president, should be used by Russia as a “weapon”.
“In some areas, fierce battles for position continue,” the president said in his daily video address. “And as before, it is particularly difficult in the Donetsk region.” Nothing has changed in the order given to the Russian troops to advance to the borders of the administrative region. But: “We don’t give up an inch of our land there.”
Preparing for winter
Outside the combat zones, intensive work is being done to restore normal life in the liberated areas. This is especially true for the restoration of gas and electricity supplies, for example in the vicinity of Kharkov. And to help the population through the coming winter period, the government has exempted imports of energy supply equipment – such as generators or transformers – from import duties.
Russia clearly intends to take advantage of the coming winter. “We understand very well: turning winter into a weapon is the plan of a terrorist state against our state and against all of Europe,” Zelenskyy said. “But we are doing everything we can to ensure that this Russian plan fails, just like several previous ones.”
