A rabbit construction was destroyed during construction work in the Weinviertel (Lower Austria) – a baby rabbit could be saved by the nature station.
A zoo played a few days ago near Hof Castle, the municipality of Engelhartstet in the Gänserndorf district: construction workers had accidentally destroyed a rabbit construction. While his little brothers and sisters were immediately dead, the small “Milo” was dredged by the construction workers and brought to the Owl and Bird of Prey Station (EGS) Haringsee. There was no trace of his mother – she had to flee in a panic.
A few days old “Survival Artist”
“Milo is a real survival artist. The little one was only a few days old and small when we got it,” reports four feet-like veterinarian and EGS director Hans Frey that the little one was fed alone with his bottle. “But he is already starting to eat a little green. He is a real hunter,” Frey and his team are happy.
Now the little one is raised with great care and love until it is self -provider enough to be released again. In the case of “Milos” it was very clear that he needed human help.
Usually no help needs
But not every small brown hare and not every small wild rabbit that is only seen in nature must also be saved. “On the contrary,” says Hans Frey and explains, “A young animal that is only found, does not need help. Never touch young animals, they are afraid of death. As a rule, the mother comes back to her boy. By the way, small rabbits and older rabbits Young animals are very resistant to weather influences.”
