ELA emphasizes in a statement that the opening on Sundays and public holidays only benefits large stores, at the expense of working conditions and the reconciliation of those who work in the trade.
The ELA union has called strikes at Ikea and Carrefour on December 24 “to demand the right to rest” of its employees.
ELA emphasizes in a statement that the opening on Sundays and public holidays only benefits large stores, at the expense of working conditions and the reconciliation of those who work in the trade.
“It must be taken into account that the majority of people who work in the trade do so more than 270 effective days per year, with only one real weekly day of rest. Opening on Sundays and public holidays only means an increase in the burden on the working population. .”, he complains.
In this sense, the union assures that large companies “benefit from the legal cover that the Government of Navarre gives to the CEN to open on public holidays, which really decides how many and on which Sundays and public holidays the companies are open.”
For this reason, ELA has declared a strike in Ikea and Carrefour stores on December 24, a day that is not only a public holiday this year but also falls on a Sunday.
“There are two strike calls in two different companies, but they have the same problem: reconciliation. For this reason, the staff has decided to stop and demand the right to reconciliation and peace,” the union concludes.
In addition, the textile and shoe sectors are also called on to strike on December 24.
