Dangerous incident in Mauthausen (Upper Austria). There is currently a winter circus there that also has camels on the programme. On Saturday evening, the animals were attacked and injured by a stray dog. The dog owner fled.
A previously unknown man let his dog loose near the circus tents on December 23 around 9:40 p.m. The dog immediately ran away and attacked four camels, slightly injuring their legs.
Owner simply walked away
While the 23-year-old owner of the camels tried to ‘drive away’ the aggressive dog, it also suffered minor injuries to the shin. The unknown dog owner then put his dog on a leash and fled. A search so far has been negative. The investigation into the dog’s owner and the dog’s breed is still ongoing.
Fur prevented something worse from happening
“Thank God this happened right after the show and we were quick,” ringmaster Alex Kaiser said Sunday. The thick camel hair on the animals’ paws may also have prevented more serious injuries, as the dog became entangled in it. “The dog also wanted to go to the horses, but that was not possible.”
