Nightmare before Christmas: On December 24, a fire broke out in an apartment on Linzer Wiener Straße shortly after noon, as reported. It is now clear: there were five people in the apartment at the time of the fire. A two-and-a-half-year-old child from a neighboring apartment also had to be taken to the hospital.
When the fire brigade arrived on Wiener Strasse shortly after noon on Sunday, thick smoke was already coming from the apartment. Because several people were still trapped in the building, the emergency services immediately started removing the smoke from the stairwell.
Seven people taken to hospital
The fire broke out in an apartment where five people lived at the time: three 38-year-olds, a roommate (20) and a 33-year-old acquaintance.
A total of seven people from the apartment complex had to be taken to hospital for examination due to suspected smoke poisoning, including a two-and-a-half-year-old toddler.
Candle as a possible cause
The Florianis were able to quickly extinguish the fire themselves: they reported the fire around 12.40 pm and an hour later the roadblock was lifted as a result of the operation.
There was also a dog in the fire apartment, which was rescued and temporarily taken to the animal shelter.
The cause of the fire has not yet been definitively clarified. A candle may have lit the fire at Christmas.
