An argument on Christmas Eve in Steyr (Upper Austria) ended bloodily: a 22-year-old allegedly stabbed his opponent (24) in the back with a knife. The next day, when questioned, the alleged attacker said he could not remember anything.
Many details are still unclear. For example, exactly how many people were present at the bloody dispute in Steyr on the evening of December 24. It is certain that two Syrians (22 and 24) and at least three other people initially had a verbal argument. The argument escalated around 7:40 p.m.
Out of danger
The 22-year-old is said to have stabbed his opponent, who was two years older than him, in the back with a knife. The 24-year-old Syrian was then taken to hospital by ambulance. He is out of danger and will be released on Tuesday.
The younger man fled after the bloody argument, but was found by police in a relative’s apartment. The handcuffs clicked on him.
Drunk at the time of the crime
Initially the suspect refused to make a statement, but when questioned the next day he stated that he could not remember what had happened the night before. The 22-year-old, who is said to have been drunk at the time of the crime, now has time to think about what happened in Garsten prison, where he was taken after consultation with the public prosecutor.
The motive for the stabbing is also still unclear. The argument was probably about the suspect’s girlfriend.
