Two young Germans (16) who were traveling in the open ski area in the Eggalm ski area had fatal consequences on Saturday. After a few descents a patch of snow came loose. One of the two was hit and seriously injured.
The German twins were in the open ski area in the Eggalm ski area in the municipality of Tux around 1:10 p.m. The two turned away from the secure ski room to ski on a variation of the piste. Previously, they had done this successfully on the same day.
Snowboard catches young people
In the area of the “Nasse Tux Bach” at about 1900 meters altitude, the two initially stopped above a gully when one of them entered it. Behind him, a piece of snow came loose and hit the 16-year-old. He was partially buried. His brother, who did not get caught in the snow, rushed to his side and was able to dig him out.
The buried victim was rescued by the emergency medical helicopter “Alpin 5” and flown to the Schwaz district hospital. “He was seriously injured as a result of the incident (broken femur and rib fracture) and was hospitalized,” police said.
Another skier captured
Because the snow sheet above the secured area became loose, a 64-year-old German man on a ski slope was also caught in the avalanche. He fell, but was not buried or injured.
