On Monday, a 31-year-old skier became so lost in open terrain while descending to a ski lift in Ischgl, Tyrol, that she was unable to make any further progress. A rescue operation was launched.
The German actually wanted to go up the ski slope to the valley station of the Nachweidebahn in the Silvretta Arena on Monday morning. Shortly before reaching it, however, she left the marked path and continued across open ground towards the valley.
Trapped in a steep gully
But the winter sports enthusiast ended up in a steep gully above the Idbach, where she was ultimately unable to make any more progress. Because she no longer knew what to do, the 31-year-old called the emergency services.
The snow rescue team and the Alpine police went out to help the woman. Around 11.15 am they found the German in the narrow steep canal and rescued her.
Brought to the doctor hypothermic and exhausted
The skier was hypothermic and exhausted, but otherwise unharmed. She was still taken to the doctor for a check-up.
