Bulldog on the back – Fall of 200 meters: dog rescued from distress in the mountains

Date:

A bulldog was lucky twice on Christmas Day: firstly because the snow was so soft that the dog survived a fall from 200 meters deep on the Katrin near Bad Ischl (Upper Austria). And secondly, because brave mountain rescuers tied him to his back and returned him to his owner.

“The owner took the cable car to Katrin with her dog and took a walk at the top. She must have fallen in the snow and let go of the leash and the dog ran away,” says Manfred Zopf, local branch manager of the Bad Ischl mountain rescue service, about an unusual operation on Monday – which fortunately ended with a small Christmas miracle.

Dog good
The dog, a bulldog, fell a total of about 200 meters on steep terrain, but was virtually unharmed. The snow was apparently so soft that the four-legged friend was not seriously injured.

Up the mountain with a dog on your back
“We rappel down and search for the dog at the bottom with our skis,” Zopf continued. The mountain rescuers found the 25-kilogram dog largely unharmed but scared. “We calmed him down and put the muzzle on him,” says Zopf.

Then one of the mountain rescuers gave him a sling and climbed back up towards Katrinalm with the skis under his feet and the heavy bulldog on his back. His owner had been eagerly waiting for him there.
