Due to a room fire in Vienna-Brigittenau, several residents had to be rescued from a smoke-filled house on Rebhanngasse on Wednesday morning, the professional fire brigade reported. The resident of the fire apartment was barely able to escape without being injured. However, his neighbors were surrounded by smoke and some of them had to be brought to safety using a turntable ladder, the fire brigade said.
When the emergency services arrived, smoke was already coming from several windows of the ground floor apartment. The injured resident immediately received emergency medical care from the Vienna Emergency Medical Service and was taken to a hospital.
Restored with a turntable ladder
Respiratory protection teams began fighting the fire, checked the stairs and brought the first people out. Residents who noticed themselves at the windows were rescued with a turntable ladder.
The fire brigade used powerful fans to clear the smoke from the stairwell and the fire apartment. Additional respiratory protection teams checked all apartments in the building and ventilated them if necessary. The cause of the fire is still unclear and is being investigated.
