Recently, a prisoner from the Graz-Jakomini prison wanted to rush to the hospital during his execution. His escape was foiled, but a guard suffered serious injuries.
Oh you happy one, oh you blessed one – not so in the prison of Graz-Jakomini! As the “Steirekrone” learned through an anonymous call, attentive prison guards were able to prevent the escape of a 19-year-old Styrian at the last minute – he is in prison for fraud and illegal possession of weapons.
The young man worked at the institution and was known to be unobtrusive. But recently he really turned up the heat and banged his hand against the wall in his cell. As a result, he suffered injuries that required hospital treatment.
Prisoner jostled officers
As is known, safety regulations have been tightened after the recent escape incidents (which we reported). In this case, the 19-year-old was wearing handcuffs at the front, which were also attached to a lap belt. Despite everything, he suddenly bumped into a servant so hard that he fell and was seriously injured. The prisoner then fled. But because he was tied up, he didn’t get far; the other officers quickly caught up with him.
When “Steirerkrone” asked prison guards union member Mario Raudner, he said: “The prisoner was unsuccessful in his escape due to the tightening of guidelines advocated by the staff representative. It is important to maintain this minimum safety standard, with coercive measures and at least two guards.”
