The Vienna police has had to intervene several times in Vienna because of violence against women. A 22-year-old was attacked and injured by her boyfriend with a knife, another threatened by her brother with a telescopic baton. Moreover, after a long search, the director succeeded in arresting a 35-year-old: he had massively threatened his ex-wife and their son and then went into hiding for months.
The 22-year-old is said to have been attacked by her 31-year-old partner around noon on Tuesday. According to the police, the attack would have taken place in the woman’s apartment in Floridsdorf. During the argument, the suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and injured the young woman on the head. She sustained superficial cuts, which she had to treat by the rescue team as an outpatient. For the time being, she made no allegations against her partner, police spokesman Markus Dittrich reported on Thursday.
Multiple attacks
After visiting her mother and sister, the 22-year-old went to a hospital and had her wounds re-treated. It was not until around 11 p.m. that she went to the Van-der-Nüll-Gasse police station in the Favoriten district and made a statement. She accused her partner of assaulting her repeatedly. The 31-year-old was contacted and came to the inspection independently on Wednesday, where he was arrested at 2:45 pm.
The murder weapon – a bread knife – was secured. The suspect only partially confessed that he would have hit his partner with the handle of the knife, but that he did not injure him with the knife, which, however, does not coincide with the cuts. The man has been taken to a prison on the orders of the Vienna public prosecutor’s office and an entry and approach ban has been imposed.
Sibling quarrel escalated
Officials in Liesing were called to another case around 6 p.m. on Wednesday. According to her own statements, a 22-year-old was threatened with a kitchen knife by her 18-year-old brother in an apartment. The uninjured woman was found crying in the stairwell by police.
In the apartment was the brother, who admitted to threatening his sister with a telescopic baton during an argument, but not with a knife. The mother present confirmed this version. The 18-year-old was provisionally arrested and given an entry and approach ban.
Suspicious months in hiding
On Tuesday morning, a 35-year-old man, who had been in hiding since the year before, was arrested on an open street in Vienna after an arrest warrant from the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office. In 2021, he is said to have repeatedly threatened to kill his 31-year-old ex-wife and their son in Vienna. He may also have used a knife and lurked in front of the two-year-old’s kindergarten.
The Serb has no registered residence in Austria, which is why the investigations by the detectives of the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Service were difficult, explains police spokesman Dittrich. The suspect was eventually tracked down and taken to prison.
