Heavy rainfall in the Pitztal led to a huge landslide in the Pitztalstraße between Wenns and Jerzens just before Christmas. The road was closed for a week. From Friday 9:00 a.m., driving will be possible again in one lane. However, further safety work is necessary.
As a result of the landslide on the L 16 Pitztalstrasse between the municipalities of Wenns and Jerzens after the Pillerbach Bridge, the road embankment on the valley side was torn away. Emergency measures were taken to make the road passable again.
On Thursday, following preparatory work over the past few days, shotcrete protection was applied to the affected area, which will now harden overnight. “After the final checks on Friday morning, the road can be opened to traffic again in one lane,” says Bernd Stigger, head of the district office of the Imst building.
Planning a comprehensive backup begins
A corresponding traffic light scheme will be introduced and is expected to remain in place for several weeks. Measurements are then taken, which serve as a basis for planning further necessary safety measures in the affected area.
