Eyes on the Olympic Games – The fastest police officer in Europe comes from Vienna

Date:

Mario Bauernfeind is a police officer and one of Austria’s greatest runners. The traffic policeman and father of two children is aiming for top sport – and a possible participation in the Olympic Games.

“I still enjoy running!” When asked by “Krone” whether there is still room for fun in top sport, Mario Bauernfeind answered – literally – like a shot from a gun. The 32-year-old father of two days old works in the traffic control center of the Vienna police. As a radio announcer, he is the ‘service channel’ for his uniformed colleagues.

Sensational time during the Frankfurt Marathon
The Viennese carries out his work with passion 40 hours a week. Because he is ‘only’ in the police force – and that despite sensational results. Bauernfeind ran 2 hours, 12 minutes and 49 seconds in wind and rain in Frankfurt this year. And he is not only the fastest police officer in Europe, but also a possible Olympic hopeful.

Running police officer hopes for Home Secretary
The runner has already applied twice to participate in the top police sport, but was rejected twice. “If I want to get one step better, I need it,” says Bauernfeind, hoping to find open ears at the Ministry of the Interior. Because in the Austrian list of the best prices of all time, the “Kiwara” is in sixth place – and the trend is increasing rapidly.

Running 62 kilometers after illness
When Bauernfeind fell ill this spring, he skipped the Vienna Marathon with a heavy heart and a few weeks later he took part in the “Wings for Life World Run” in Vienna – and promptly won with a 62 (!) kilometer run . Postscript: “I never want to have to walk that long again!”

Eternally grateful to his mentor
The police officer has always been a good sport. He played football at FC Inzersdorf until he was 16 and his gymnastics teacher then encouraged him towards triathlon. “He gave me a bicycle and gave me free swimming lessons. “I am still eternally grateful to him today,” Bauernfeind does not forget where he comes from. Perhaps he can give his mentor the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games as early as 2024…
