There are currently huge waves in the US state of California due to a storm in the Pacific Ocean. In the cities of Ventura and Santa Cruz, entire sections of the beach had to be closed as the water flooded neighborhoods and restaurants.
On Thursday, people on Seaward Avenue in the small town of Ventura were surprised by a huge wave crashing onto the shore there. According to reports, eight people were injured, fortunately none seriously. The video (see above) shows people running for their lives from the rushing water.
Floods and road closures
The waves caused by storms have already caused flooding and road closures in many communities along the California coast, scaring people. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office has issued an evacuation warning for some areas.
Waves up to ten meters high are predicted
The swell won’t be a flash in the pan: Some parts of the California coast are expected to see big waves this weekend – some up to 30 feet high. The waves are expected to cause flooding that could extend from the U.S.-Mexico border to the northern Bay Area, the report said.
The California Highway Patrol Santa Cruz warned of flooding on the Rio Del Mar Esplanade in the northern Monterey Bay town of Aptos.
