On Friday, climate activists covered a stylized Christmas tree, sponsored by Italian fashion company Gucci, with washable paint in a shopping street in central Milan (see video).
Activists of the last generation accuse the luxury fashion industry – and by extension Gucci – of being part of an unsustainable business model that widens the economic wage gap and exploits natural resources.
The group has defaced several monuments and set up roadblocks in Italy to protest the lack of action by the government in Rome to combat climate change. They are calling for the creation of a compensation fund for those affected by rising temperatures and extreme weather events.
It was only in mid-December that activists from Last Generation sprayed Christmas trees in public places in several German cities such as Berlin, Leipzig and Munich with orange paint. In the German capital, a tree was hit in the “Mall of Berlin” shopping center, not far from the German Federal Council.
What do you think? Is this necessary activism or is there property damage and therefore a criminal offense? Let us know in the story comments.
