About three months after the attack on the husband of top American politician Nancy Pelosi, the American justice department has released the video recordings of the police. The video shows the assailant, 42, attacking 82-year-old Paul Pelosi with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home. In addition to the video, parts of Pelosi’s emergency call were also made public on Friday. Several media outlets had previously requested the release of the material.
Pelosi’s husband was attacked and seriously injured just days before the US congressional elections in October. He had to undergo surgery after the attack for a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands.
The perpetrator himself targeted the powerful Democrat Pelosi, but did not find her during the robbery. David D., 42, wanted to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and had cable ties, rope and tape with him.
Wanted to smash Nancy Pelosi’s kneecaps
According to investigators, after his arrest, the man said he had taken Nancy Pelosi hostage and wanted to talk to her. If the Speaker of the US House of Representatives told the “truth” he would let her go; if she were to “lie”, which he assumes, he would smash her kneecaps. The indictment documents do not state what “truth” is involved.
Forces were able to overwhelm attackers
The video now shows Pelosi wrestling with the assailant for a hammer. He was able to snatch the 82-year-old’s hammer and brutally beat his victim with it. Eventually the police intervene. You see Pelosi lying motionless on the floor. The emergency services can eventually overpower the attacker.
The man is charged with, among other things, attempted murder, burglary, assault and deprivation of liberty of an elderly person and threatening an official. He wanted to force the Democrat into a wheelchair to show other congressmen that their “actions have consequences.” he told police. Paul Pelosi was released from the hospital in early November and has since returned to the public eye.
