The Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand became world famous in 2018 thanks to the spectacular rescue of a children’s football team. The natural attraction has been open to visitors again since the end of December.
Interested parties must register their visit two weeks in advance. The cave is part of the Tham Luang – Khun Nam Nang Non Nature Reserve.
In addition to information about the geology, tourists can expect an exhibition about the exciting rescue of the young people and their trainer (25).
Cave drama made headlines around the world
The Thai football team went to the cave with their coach. However, due to heavy rain, the children and young people between the ages of eleven and sixteen became stuck there in June 2018.
There were no signs of life from the group for nine days before the boys were discovered by British cave divers.

Selfless helpers made miracles come true
The way there was almost four kilometers long. The fact that the twelve kickers and their coach are still alive is thanks to experienced helpers who, after a long and intensive preparation period, brought one victim after another out of the cave.
More than a thousand helpers on duty
It took a total of 17 days until the happy ending. More than 90 divers were present and a total of more than a thousand people from ten countries helped. They all risked their own lives to save the children’s. One helper died from an infection he contracted during the rescue efforts.
“Resignation, fear and despair”
What the boys experienced in the nine days before their discovery remains difficult to understand.
“In a cave you lose your sense of time and direction within a few hours. “The mood fluctuates between complete resignation, fear and despair and the hope of being rescued,” Erwin Benko, head of the crisis intervention team for the state of Styria, said in 2018.
