In love with the countryside – Chris Laine: “Look! This is paradise!”

Date:

American Chris Laine has traveled the world, but only the countryside really impressed him. Today he lives happily with his wife and their son in Fußach. Author Robert Schneider visited him there as part of his series ‘Foreign at Home?’

The cameraman, musician and music producer Chris Laine, born in 1965 in Columbus (Ohio), was a kind of contact point for young artists from Austria, especially from Vorarlberg, probably more coincidentally, in the early 1990s. For example, he did this. The then not so well-known double bassist, composer and bandleader Peter Herbert was employed by him so that he could receive work papers. Laine himself lived with a friend in a dilapidated factory area where they had renovated a makeshift attic. “We lived there semi-nomadically for $100 instead of $1,000. New York was already very expensive back then.” Through his contacts with the many “Gsilers”, Chris himself started to become curious about this, for him, completely blank spot on the map. And when he visited the Ländle for the first time decades ago, he immediately felt: “Hey, that’s it!”
