Shortly after the start of the new year, a mother was injured by a rocket in Feldkirch. Her baby was in a stroller nearby. The fire brigade had to fight a total of thirteen fires on New Year’s Eve.
The rocket hit a building on Sparkasse Square and exploded there. The mother suffered indeterminate burns to her legs, but the baby was unharmed. In terms of the number of operations – 295 – the police spoke of an average New Year’s Eve.
Two teenagers arrested
Regarding the incident in Feldkirch, the director reported a large gathering of people during which provocations were exchanged and fireworks were also fired. Two teenagers were temporarily arrested for aggressive behavior. In Bregenz and the neighboring municipality of Lochau, several people were injured when pyrotechnic objects were fired and had to be taken to hospital.
Garbage bins and mailboxes demolished
In several cases, garbage bins and mailboxes were damaged by fireworks. Blank weapons were also found by the police and confiscated if necessary.
According to the Rescue and Fire Control Center (RFL), fire brigades had to respond to thirteen fires on New Year’s Eve. Hedges, waste containers, a woodshed in Altach (Feldkirch district) and a facade of a house in Lauterach (Bregenz district) were damaged by fires caused by fireworks. In an apartment building in Lustenau, a fire broke out in a basement compartment due to a defect in a battery charging station. The flames were quickly extinguished and one person was taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.
