“Not Responsible” – Defendant in the Maddie Case: Breach of Process

Date:

Will the suspect in the missing Maddie McCann case be released soon? German Christian B. is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for the 2005 rape of an American woman in Praia da Luz, Portugal. An arrest warrant was issued against the 45-year-old in October on suspicion of sexual abuse and rape of several children. But this has now been lifted!

Because a planned trial in Braunschweig (Lower Saxony) has now started, the court responsible there has declared itself “not responsible”, bild.de reported on Thursday. One of the reasons given was that the last place of residence in Germany before B’s flight abroad was in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The 45-year-old’s lawyer emphasized that either the Magdeburg court or the Frankfurt am Main court should be responsible. Incidentally, he had already pointed this out during the investigation into the Maddie case. It is still unclear how the local judiciary will assess the evidence presented.

Maddie disappeared over 15 years ago
The picture of Maddie in the pink top and with a smile on her face went around the world. On May 3, 2007, the little one from Great Britain disappeared without a trace. Her parents have not given up to this day. They hope their daughter is still alive. But in recent years, there have been increasing signs that the girl is dead.

For years there was no new evidence. Then in 2020 the turning point: the public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig considers the previously convicted B. to be the kidnapper and murderer. He had local knowledge of the hotel in Praia da Luz, Portugal. In addition, the suspect ran a swimming pool business at the time and cleaned the facility’s pools. He was five minutes from the hotel at the time of the crime.
