Breakable screens – drama of the window lintel: different cases in Austria

Date:

Again two children fell from the window in Vienna and Upper Austria. In both cases, the little ones leaned against screens.

It was early evening on Tuesday when a little boy in a family home in Vienna-Penzing climbed to play on a windowsill on the top floor of his childhood home. His father, who was ill-fated in the living room next door, heard a dull noise around 6 p.m. and ran to the window.

son screamed in pain
His three-year-old son lay down in the garden crying in pain. He leaned his hands against a security fence and fell down. When the ambulance arrived, the boy responded, but was flown to hospital with serious injuries. It wasn’t until May 10 that a two-year-old survived a similar accident in Vienna-Simmering, just as badly injured.

Just a few hours after the drama in Vienna on Tuesday, a similar incident occurred in Linz: Little Zara (3) played in the open window. The fragile screen gave out, the girl fell three feet. Papa Ashrafuddin is in shock.

Fixed grilles and handles would prevent accidents
This means that the series of children falling out of the window continues in Upper Austria as well. It wasn’t until Sunday that a one-year-old girl fell from the first floor in a parking lot in Baumgartenberg, shortly after that another accident happened. Magdalena (4) climbed on a windowsill in Neuhofen/Krems and fell four meters down.

Here too, the little ones leaned against screens while their parents stayed in other rooms of the houses and apartments. Lockable window handles and metal grilles screwed in from the outside could have prevented the accidents.
