Only the remains of the strictly protected bird houses have survived. The municipality of Eisenberg in Burgenland has no explanation for this.
Residents of the multipurpose hall in Eisenberg have sounded the alarm after reports from the “Krone” about the strictly protected swallow nests, which unfortunately are repeatedly removed without permission. Until about two years ago, there were still about 20 nests in the event building – and countless swallows breeding in it. But then the nests disappeared, and with them the birds.
just leftovers
A local inspection only reveals the remains of the houses, which appear to have been removed. “It’s crazy that the nests are gone. The birds don’t come back now,” say Willi Reiger and Günter Zimmel.
community knows nothing
The city office does not know what may have happened to the nests. In any case, the municipality has not done anything in that direction, says mayor Franz Wachter. Two years ago, extra planks were even installed there for the swallows. Of course you are committed to the conservation of the birds and next week there will even be an inspection with an ornithologist, the local manager emphasizes.
