Ancient legendary characters moved from farm to farm in Goldegg on New Year’s Day. Besides old Mrs. Percht, there were also bears, Hans-Wurst, witches and kings.
She punishes laziness, rewards hard work and goes from house to house with her witches. We are talking about Mrs. Percht, who, contrary to the old legends, brought only ‘An Fried’, a Reim and a G’sund’ on New Year’s Day in Goldegg. On the morning of January 1, she met the locals of Schiach and Schönperchten in Oberwörnsdorf. But that’s not all: there were also witches, Werch- and Zapfenmandl, a night watchman, a chimney sweep, Hans-Wurst, two bears with their bear drivers and the Three Kings.
The disguised Pongauers visited the Goldegger Höfe for the 28th time. “But only ten of the 110 farms, because we cannot do more in one day,” explains Franz Harlander, who as chairman is reviving the custom.
The approximately 55 people also stopped at the Lederer family at the Zweilinghof, where the Perchten group made their bears dance, the witches swept and the wise men from the East sang.
Perchtenlauf in Goldegg andwerfen
The colorful group then met other Goldeggers in the city. In the evening the traditional Perchtenlauf took place there. But Perchten groups celebrated the new year not only there, but also in Pfarrwerfen.
