The afternoon ended tragically for a pair of siblings who were playing next to an apartment building in Damüls (Vorarlberg) on Saturday. The 13-year-old slipped on a steep slope next to the building, slid about 40 meters down a slope before free-falling five meters onto an access road.
The girl couldn’t find her balance when she slipped in the hard frozen snow around 3:30 p.m. Her eleven-year-old brother could only watch as his sister tumbled down the slope and fell into the depths.
Girl seriously injured
Only after the 13-year-old was seriously injured and left lying on the asphalt road was the boy able to come to her aid. Other emergency workers alerted the emergency services.
Meet Haley’s hospital
The girl suffered several broken bones in the fall and was flown to Feldkirch State Hospital by the Gallus 1 rescue helicopter after receiving first aid from the Damüls mountain rescue team.
