After a baby almost drowned in a swimming pool in Fügen in Tyrol on New Year’s Day, police are now investigating the child’s mother, among others. She was said to have been in the toilet at the time of the accident.
According to the police, she may have transferred supervision of the girl to someone else. The researchers declined to provide further details about their identities. In any case, the mother is being investigated on suspicion of negligent bodily harm, officials said. In such cases, investigations against legal guardians are the normal procedure and nothing special.
Investigators currently believe the 10-month-old girl’s mother was in the toilet at the time of the accident. In the meantime, someone else took care of the little one. Who is responsible for the baby almost drowning needs to be clarified first. A report is then sent to the public prosecutor.
Out of danger after resuscitation
On New Year’s Day, a swimmer rescued the girl from a baby pool into which she had previously fallen without wearing water wings. A doctor who happened to be present immediately started resuscitation. The rescue helicopter then flew the baby to the clinic in Innsbruck, from where the signal was given on Tuesday: “The girl is out of danger,” a spokeswoman explained, and she could already be transferred to the normal ward.
