Homeless man died – city manager: “He belonged in Grieskirchen”

Date:

A homeless man (66) was found dead in Trattnach in Upper Austria. The city manager of Grieskirchen, Maria Pachner, is deeply affected: “He was always on the road, you saw him everywhere. When someone belongs like that, you miss him.” The cause of death is still unclear, but foul play is currently being ruled out.

“He was just part of it. He marched around constantly, was present and familiar in the cityscape. I heard yesterday that he died and I was shocked and sad. When a person belonging to the region dies, he is missed,” says Mayor of Grieskirchner, Maria Pachner (ÖVP) about “Mr. N.”. Edward V (66) was known far and wide under this name. After an eviction and divorce dispute a few years ago, he became a perpetual wanderer.

“Always on the go”
“In the summer he was out from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., was always on the go, was tanned and seemed fit,” a police officer from Grieskirchen recalls about the homeless man, who of course never seemed like a Sandler, but had always been proportionately enforced. He used to work and would have received a pension, but never applied for it because he didn’t want anything from the state.

Lodging in an old barn
The authorities knew that ‘Mr. N.’ occasionally found shelter in an old barn or a dilapidated house. It is also believed that he had some kind of base.

Discovered in the Trattnach
Around 9:30 am on Tuesday, his naked body was accidentally discovered floating in the Trattnach by a police officer and recovered by the fire brigade. He must have washed in the nearby river. His clothes have not yet been found. An autopsy was ordered to clarify the cause of death; the Wels public prosecutor’s office does not currently assume foul play.

Branded as an outsider
Homeless people are seen as outsiders, but are still part of society. This was also evident from the great sympathy for the death of the “Kupfermuckn” seller Ilija Nicolic (75), who died in December, who had been selling the street newspaper at the Mozart intersection in Linz for more than twenty years.
