Alcoholic driver behind the wheel – car crashes into chapel: ‘Only rubble left’

Date:

A young alcoholic driver gave a nice gift on Wednesday evening. The 28-year-old, completely drunk, crashed his car into a chapel in Feldkirchen an der Donau, Upper Austria. The sacred brick building collapsed completely. The man had a blood alcohol level of 1.7 per mille.

A 28-year-old from the Urfahr-Umwelt district was driving his car in the municipality of Feldkirchen an der Donau towards Bergheim on Wednesday around 5:30 PM when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle, skidded and eventually crashed head-on into a small chapel on the side of the road driven.

Taken to hospital
The chapel, made of brick, completely collapsed upon impact. The accident driver was injured to an unspecified degree in the incident and had to be taken to hospital after first aid from the rescue team. He also appeared to be drunk: 1.7 per mille.

Chapel restored just two years ago
“All that remained of the chapel was rubble,” reports the FF Feldkirchen. The chapel was only restored two years ago by the Camaraderie Association and equipped with a bench. Fortunately, the extensively restored and hand-painted statue of Jesus survived with little damage and was rescued by the fire brigade.
