Unions have called a four-day strike that has led to the cancellation of 444 flights and affects more than 45,600 passengers.
The strike call of the ‘handling’ (ground assistance service) of Iberia that the unions had carried out for January 5, 6, 7 and 8 remains after the meeting between the representatives of the group and the trade unions CCOO and UGT ended without an agreement. Therefore this It’s going to start on Friday a four-day strike that led to the cancellation of 444 flights, affecting more than 45,600 passengers.
The labor dispute began when Iberia lost handling service at several state airports, including Bilbao. At that moment a process emerged subrogation of employment contracts from Iberia to the companies that will now provide service.
That’s what the unions demandinstead of subrogating employees to other companies, Iberia do ‘auto handling’ and provides ground handling services at airports itself. The company does not consider this option feasible.
After initial negotiations failed, CCOO and UGT called for a strike, which was also supported by the USO union.
Iberia considers this conflict unjustifiedclaiming that the jobs and social benefits of the affected workers will be guaranteed by subrogation, as well as the salary based on what they had for the past twelve months, the annual working hours and vacation days they also had for the past year, seniority and the same type labor contract.
In the meetings of the past few days, the parties have not reached an agreement, so the strike days will begin on Friday, which will affect not only the Iberia companies, but also the more than 90 airlines served by the Iberia company Airport Service at various airports .
The Iberia group claims to have provided a solution to 91% of travelers affected by this strike, by reassigning them to other flights or refunding their tickets.
