Six seriously injured – four dead after hospital fire in Germany

Four people died in a fire at a hospital in Lower Saxony on Thursday evening. 22 other people were injured, six of them seriously. An expert report should now provide information about the cause of the fire (see video above).

The fire broke out on Thursday evening on the third floor of a wing of the Uelzen Clinic. According to hospital staff, there was heavy smoke. When the fire brigade arrived, cries for help could be heard. Together with the police, several people were eventually brought to safety. The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from spreading.

Nevertheless, the fire claimed four lives. Three people died immediately in hospital, another was taken to another hospital and died there. “We are deeply saddened, our condolences and thoughts go out to the relatives of the deceased and the injured,” said a spokesperson for the Uelzen Clinic. 22 people were injured, six of them seriously.

Emergency Department closed until January 12
The cause of the fire was initially unclear, but an expert report was ordered. According to initial estimates, the damage could amount to well over a million euros. For the time being, several departments cannot be used and no patients can be admitted or treated in the emergency department until January 12. About 50 patients were transferred to surrounding hospitals.
