A 74-year-old woman was hit by a car on a security path with traffic lights in Rosental an der Kainach (Voitsberg district in Styria) on Saturday evening.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., the two road users collided on a security path on Packer Straße (B70) in Rosental an der Kainach.
The security route in question is controlled by a traffic light, although the 18-year-old motorist from the Voitsberg district may have missed the red light for a so far unknown reason.
The pensioner was thrown against the windscreen and eventually landed about 30 meters away. She suffered such serious injuries that she died a short time later in the LKH West Styria.
Eyewitnesses provided first aid
A witness to the accident immediately provided first aid and called emergency services. The Red Cross and an emergency doctor then took over the medical care of the West Styrian woman and attempted to perform life-saving measures on the seriously injured woman.
Alcohol test was negative
An alcohol test on the driver was negative. The Graz Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the seizure of the accident vehicle and the body of the 74-year-old. The investigation into the exact nature of the accident is still ongoing.
