Taser was ineffective: man in refugee home dies after police operation

A 26-year-old Guinean died after a police operation at a first reception center in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. The man first rioted in the accommodation and attacked employees. When police arrived, the man was reportedly in his room and attacked the officers.

During the incident, which moved into the facility’s hallway and courtyard, police officers used a Taser on the man twice. According to the information this would have had no effect.

Officials were injured by bites and kicks
Emergency services eventually overpowered the 26-year-old, who continued to resist vigorously, and temporarily arrested him. Two officers were injured by bites and a female officer was injured by a kick to the head. Several ambulances have been deployed for the accommodation resident and the emergency services.

Man died in hospital
The man subsequently lost consciousness during his treatment in the ambulance. According to police, he was taken to a hospital under resuscitation measures, where he died.

The investigation into the incident and the man’s cause of death was taken over by the Bochum police. According to the statement, the officers involved in the operation were to receive psychological support.
