The Nassereith volunteer fire brigade (Imst district) had to go out on a strange mission on Saturday morning! A motorist blindly relied on the navigation system while trying to avoid a traffic jam and took a wrong turn. His ride ended just before tragedy.
Emergency services were alerted shortly after 11 a.m. The reason was more than strange: a vehicle had gotten stuck on the old Fernpass road, actually a narrow cycle path, and was in danger of ending up in the forest.
The driver, who according to information from “Krone” did not know the area, wanted to avoid the traffic jam on the Fernpasweg and quickly activated his navigation device in the car. He probably trusted the device too much and rode a cycle path without thinking too much about the route.
The fire brigade had to transport equipment
Only when there was no more back and forth possible did the driver probably notice his accident and alert the emergency services. However, they first had to transport the recovery equipment for the towing service over a kilometer along the narrow route before the vehicle could be secured and finally recovered.
