Two of the three alleged terrorists arrested before Christmas in a refugee shelter in Vienna-Ottakring in connection with rumors of plans to attack St. Stephen’s Cathedral and Cologne Cathedral will remain in custody for another four weeks. The Vienna Regional Court announced this on Monday.
After one of the suspects had already been released, the remaining two suspects were taken into custody at the Vienna Regional Court on Monday. It’s a couple from Tajikistan. The man (28) and his 27-year-old wife must remain in custody.
The terror suspects were arrested in Ottakring at Christmas and taken into custody on December 25 due to the risk of escape, concealment and the risk of committing a crime. They are accused of being part of a radical Islamist terror network that extends across the country. They are said to have been involved in plans to attack St. Stephen’s Cathedral and Cologne Cathedral.
Terror suspects deny the charges
The two Viennese terror suspects denied all charges against them during the detention hearing on Monday afternoon, Salzborn said: “They continue to plead ‘not guilty’.” Despite this, the two did not appeal the court’s ruling. The pre-trial detention order is therefore valid until February 8.
