A strange and dangerous chase ended in the middle of Krems, Lower Austria, with a 23-year-old taken into custody and a child left in the backseat of a car.
At first, attentive police officers noticed a car that was known because of its Spanish license plate and had already been noticed for other crimes. The officers therefore wanted to stop the driver and chased him with flashing lights. But the man behind the wheel didn’t want to stop at first. Only when the patrol car was at the same height did he allow himself to be convinced.
Son and forbidden weapon
But he didn’t want to get out, so he put the car in reverse, turned around and sped towards the police car at full speed. Shortly before the collision, the driver braked, got out and continued on foot.
Backup requested
He left his six-year-old son alone in the car – along with a prohibited steel bar. The police officers, who had already called for reinforcements, gave chase and were able to arrest the fugitive a short time later.
It turned out to be a 23-year-old Romanian who was banned from staying in Austria. After initially reporting that he was at large, the young man was taken into custody awaiting deportation. Further investigations are still ongoing.
