The Italian lawmaker who injured a guest by firing a gun at a New Year’s Eve party was suspended on Tuesday. Emanuele Pozzolo had been showing some guests his mini pistol, for which he has a firearms permit, when a shot was accidentally fired.
A 31-year-old suffered minor injuries to his leg and had to be treated in hospital. The MP from Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia party (Fdl, Brothers of Italy in German, note) is now accused by the Biella public prosecutor’s office of bodily harm and lack of supervision of weapons. His pistol, the size of a lighter, and several other pistols were confiscated. Pozzolo’s firearms license was also revoked.
Meloni will be “very strict”.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in Rome last Thursday that she had recommended her party suspend the politician until a commission investigated the conduct. “In the leadership of a party there is always someone who makes a mistake or does the wrong thing. Because of the responsibilities we have, I will be very strict,” she announced.
