A man from Neumarkt an der Raab was in great danger. A fire broke out in his house in the evening. The 35-year-old managed to get himself to safety, but had to be taken to hospital with severe smoke inhalation. Firefighters rescued his dog from an adjacent room.
The owner discovered the fire near the kitchen on Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. The flames spread quickly. Life-threatening smoke filled the living rooms. The 35-year-old owner immediately fled outside. He suffered injuries of an undetermined nature and first aid was provided by the alerted Red Cross team. The patient was taken to hospital for suspected severe smoke inhalation.
Fire quickly under control
34 fire brigades from Neumarkt an der Raab and Jennersdorf fought the flames. The volunteers fought the fire in the house using heavy breathing equipment. “An extinguishing attack was carried out from outside through the already broken windows. “The fire was quickly brought under control,” said operational management.
Search for the missing pet
A power line had been installed from a nearby fire hydrant to provide firefighting water. During the work it was noticed that the owner’s dog was still in the house. The fire brigade immediately started searching for him. The four-legged friend was discovered and rescued in a completely smoke-filled adjoining room. Veterinarian Klaus Fischl took over the care: “The dog is doing well.”
Thanks to targeted efforts, the fire was quickly brought under control. The cause of the fire will now be clarified by expert police investigators.
