The Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevicius, has warned that the pouring pellets of plastic “threatens the environment and economic activities such as fishing”, while he was “eager” to talk about it how to ‘help better’.
“We would like to discuss how we can best help,” the Lithuanian commissioner emphasized in a message published on the social network X.

“The 25 tons of plastic pellets spilled on the coast of Galicia threatens the marine environment and economic activities such as fishing‘, said the Commissioner, also responsible for the Oceans and Fisheries portfolios.
This Monday, a spokesperson for the European Commission stressed that national authorities are responsible for the immediate management of plastic pellet discharges, such as those in Galicia, while Brussels is working on medium and long-term measures to reduce pollution by microplastics.
