Alarm at the Vienna metro station Ottakring: A knife attack took place there shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday. A man (42) is said to have injured two employees of Wiener Linien. A passenger wanted to help the two victims, but was seriously injured in the face by the suspect with a pocket knife.
The police emergency number received a report on Tuesday evening about a fight in the vicinity of Ottakring metro station. Officers found a person on the platform with a cut on his face. The injured person – a 34-year-old passenger – stated that he had come to the aid of two Wiener Linien employees when they were attacked by a man throwing punches.
The policeman suddenly fired a blank shot
The suspect then allegedly attacked the passenger with a knife and injured his face, after which he fled. The two employees of Wiener Linien were also slightly injured in the attack. The officers immediately gave chase. The suspected perpetrator was discovered on Schuhmeierplatz. The man did not want to obey the stop order and one of the officers fired a blank shot.
Imposition of pre-trial detention promised
The suspect continued to flee and could only be overpowered and arrested with the help of pepper spray and a Taser. “The suspected murder weapon, a pocket knife, has been found and seized from the 42-year-old Austrian,” the police announced on Wednesday. The suspect could not yet be interrogated due to his mental condition. The Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office has announced the imposition of pre-trial detention. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
