The Iranian Ministry of Health has ordered a fourth corona vaccination for all age groups. “Everyone should get a fourth vaccination in the near future to control the pandemic in the country,” Deputy Minister Kamal Hejdari said on Friday. The country could thus achieve a corona immunity of up to 95 percent.
Previously, in Iran, the double booster was only required for Iranians over the age of 70. Until the middle of last year, Iran was hit particularly hard by the corona pandemic. The daily number of victims even reached more than 700 last August and the infections more than 50,000.
Vaccination campaign paid off
The situation eased after the vaccination campaign accelerated. Today, more than 64 of the country’s nearly 84 million people have been vaccinated once, nearly 58 million twice and more than 27 million three times.
According to the Ministry of Health, there were six new deaths and 185 new infections on Friday. In total, more than 140,000 corona deaths and more than seven million infected people have been registered in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020.
