Soldiers threatened? – Israel: Killed journalists were terrorists

Date:

After two journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip last weekend, the Israeli military said the dead were members of terrorist organizations. One of the dead is the son of one of the enclave’s best-known journalists, the head of Al-Jazeera’s Gaza bureau.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on social media that the two men had operated drones, posing a danger to their own soldiers. The two were later identified as Hamsa Wael Dahduh and Mustafa Thuria.

In this message you can see how the father mourns his son Hamsa Wael Dahduh:

Journalists are said to have belonged to Hamas and Islamic Jihad
According to intelligence information, the murdered men were terrorists. Dahduh, who, like his famous father Wael Dahdouh, worked for Al-Jazeera, is said to have belonged to the Islamic Jihad organization, according to the IDF. His colleague, who worked for the AFP news agency, among others, is said to have belonged to the brigade of the Islamist-Palestinian organization Hamas.

Reporters wanted to cover bombings in a ‘humanitarian zone’.
The two reporters were driving in a car between Khan Younis and Rafah along with other journalists on Sunday when they were attacked in their car. The Moraj area, northeast of Rafah, had been designated a ‘humanitarian zone’ by the Israeli army, but bomb attacks are said to have taken place there. Hasma planned to report on the aftermath of these attacks. Another journalist driving the vehicle was seriously injured in the IDF airstrike.

Famous journalist has already lost five family members
For Wael Dahdouh, the death of his eldest son is not the only blow of fate since the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip after Hamas’ major attack on Israel. In October, the journalist reported on an airstrike – without knowing that many of his relatives had been killed in an explosion. He lost his wife, son Mahmoud (15), daughter Sham (7) and newborn grandson in one fell swoop, Al-Jazeera reported.
