“I’m not interested in getting richer,” millionaire heiress Marlene Engelhorn explains in an interview with krone.tv. Instead, she wants to be “just like everyone else.” In return, their inheritance would have to be “divided” – by complete strangers.
Engelhorn wants to get rid of her money. For this reason, the millionaire heiress created the initiative “Good advice for redistribution”. A citizens’ council made up of randomly selected people will decide what happens to their 25 million euros. Engelhorn held a press conference about this on Tuesday.
“Nobody pays attention to the rich”
“It’s nice to talk to rich people,” says the 31-year-old, explaining her current media presence. However, she does not want to distribute her money “in silence”. “I think it’s problematic when people with a lot of wealth secretly support what they think is great.”
Nobody pays attention to the ‘rich’: ‘They are not accountable to anyone and can therefore exert influence. We also keep an eye on the government.”
The citizens’ assembly must distribute money
Engelhorn is certain that rich people are a danger to democracy. “For me it is not about getting richer, but about dealing with assets democratically.” A completely foreign committee from society is more sustainable, she explains her decision to go public with it.
Heir to millions wants to go to work
After the ‘redistribution’ of her inheritance, Engelhorn wants to work ‘just like everyone else’. The transition ‘to working life’ still lies ahead of her.
