Major operation in Dornbirn: Fire broke out on the roof terrace of an apartment building in Hatlerdorf on Friday morning. The complex had to be evacuated. More than a hundred firefighters were working to extinguish the fire.
Early on Friday morning around 5:30 am, the residents of a multi-storey house on Arlbergstrasse in Dornbirn were woken from their sleep. A fire broke out on the top floor of the apartment building. The alarmed emergency services evacuated the house and brought the thirty residents outside. The people were then accommodated in the restaurant of the Sparmarkt opposite.
Arlbergstrasse had to be closed during the operation. Fortunately, the fire was quickly extinguished. The top apartment was slightly damaged and the roof terrace was severely damaged. The other apartments are all habitable and can be occupied again around 8 a.m. The cause of the fire is unknown. Investigations are underway. The fire was fought from the inside and with the help of the fire brigade’s turntable ladder.
“During this fire, approximately 100 members of the volunteer fire brigade were present with nine emergency vehicles; supported by about 40 helpers from the Red Cross and the police. We are all pleased that the operation went relatively smoothly and that the residents were able to return to their apartments quickly,” Mayor Andrea Kaufmann said of the incident.
