Major search on Thursday evening on the Danube in Vienna: A witness had heard cries for help from the water and then raised the alarm. Countless helpers then meticulously searched the river on the water and in the air.
Emergency services were called around 9 p.m., police told Krone. A “Krone” reader-reporter witnessed the operation and captured it in photos.
Search on foot, at sea and in the air
According to police, a woman on the Danube heard a cry for help from the water and made an emergency call. A large number Executive, fire and rescue forces responded. The river was then searched by boat and helicopter and the surrounding coast was also combed on foot by the helpers.
The search lasted two hours and was called off around 11 p.m. According to the director, no traces have been found, such as a robe or backpack, that could indicate that someone is in distress.
