And the screen is always tempting: for stressed parents, TV, smartphone or tablet are often the last resort to keep their children calm. The child has been whining and whining for hours. Even the most patient parents lose patience at some point and resort to probably the most effective means to calm their children and their mood: television or, in the meantime, especially because there is “Peppa Pig”, “Paw Patrol ” and the like there are accessible at all times on a smartphone or tablet.
According to a study by Florida International University, young children up to the age of two in 1997 – YouTube was still a long way away – spent just one hour and 19 minutes a day in front of the screen. In 2014 that was already three hours and three minutes. Some parents cited exhaustion and a lack of affordable alternatives as reasons.
