Mountain rescue operations Friday in Gratkorn in Styria: A mountain athlete fell in a climbing garden because a boulder came loose. After initial care, the accident victim was flown to UKH Graz.
The climber was in the lead at a climbing garden in the municipality of Gratkorn when a large boulder came loose from the wall, causing him to fall several meters. He was seriously injured as a result of the fall and the falling rocks. Friends then started the rescue chain and informed the Graz mountain rescue service. Ten mountain rescuers, an emergency doctor from the Graz mountain rescue service and an Alpine police officer arrived on the scene.
Dew rescue by the rescue helicopter crew
“The approach, the last 20 minutes of walking to the climbing garden, is only possible on foot over an impassable and alpine path. “It is very freezing at the moment,” reports Werner Orac, head of operations at the Graz Mountain Rescue Service. After medical first aid, the injured person was lifted to the foot of the climbing rock and, using a rope, prepared for rescue by the Öamtc Christophorus 17 emergency medical helicopter. The climber was then flown to UKH Graz for further care.
