Including cancer patients – Qatar representatives talk to Hamas about hostages

Date:

Qatar representatives talk to Hamas about providing essential medicines to Israeli hostages. Some prisoners were said to be suffering from diseases such as cancer and diabetes (see video above).

On October 7, terrorists from Hamas and other extremist groups committed the worst massacre in Israel’s history. More than 1,200 people were killed and about 250 others were deported to the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government estimates that after the initial release in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, approximately 136 people are still being held in the coastal area, 25 of whom are believed to be no longer alive.

Because relatives of sick hostages pointed out the need for medicine during a meeting with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, these are now part of the negotiations, the New York Times reported on Thursday.

No expulsion of Hamas leaders
Reports that Qatari representatives have proposed expelling Hamas leaders in exchange for a ceasefire are believed to be false. “Such an agreement has not been discussed at any time or with any party since the start of the war,” a Qatari government official said. Spreading this false information could “potentially harm sensitive, ongoing conversations.”

The aim of the negotiations is to “end the bloodshed, protect the lives of innocent civilians, release hostages” and ensure unhindered aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip. That is why discussions are currently being held with the Israeli government about providing medicines to the civilian population. Qatar reported progress in this area, with the talks separate from negotiations on further hostage releases.

Hamas and Israel do not speak directly to each other. The weeklong ceasefire in November was brokered by the governments of Qatar, Egypt and the US government. At that time, 105 hostages were released in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners.
