The captured ships are the “Delta Poseidon” and the “Prudent Warrior,” the IRNA agency said.
The capture of the Greek ships took place hours after Nournews, a media outlet affiliated with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, announced that Tehran “punitive measures” on the recent seizure of an Iranian ship by Greece.
the Greek authorities seized an Iranian ship on Wednesday who transported oil and according to Iran on behalf of the United States. Tehran then described the move as “piracy”.
The acting ambassador of the Swiss embassy, which represents the United States on Iranian soil, was summoned this Friday by Iran’s foreign ministry to express “a strong protest against the violation of international regulations and free trade”.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also requested that the immediate release ships.
The Persian Gulf was the scene of numerous incidents since May 2019including attacks on oil tankers and cargo ships, amid mounting tensions between Iran and the US over sanctions imposed by the latter on the sale of Iranian oil.
In the latest incident, Iran accused the United States of hijacking an oil tanker carrying Iranian crude in October to steal the fuel in the Oman Sea, an action that was prevented by the Revolutionary Guards Navy.
