Since a quick appointment with a statutory health insurance doctor was not possible, a woman from Lower Austria consulted a doctor of her choice. The reimbursement of costs by the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) took a long time. The ombudsman and Krone+ took up the matter and asked what measures would be taken to shorten the processing time.
She had severe spastic bronchitis and therefore shortness of breath. That’s why Astrid H. went to the pulmonologist twice last fall. “Because of the long waiting times for legal health doctors and the shortness of breath, I became a favorite doctor,” the Lower Austrian explained.
She paid both bills directly during her doctor visits and submitted them to the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) on October 17 and November 13 with a request for reimbursement of the costs. “No processing has taken place so far,” the insured wrote to us on January 8.
